Višegrad tourist organisation identifies the tower as a defensive lookout belonging to the old town known as Pavlovina. It stands on rock above the Drina at the southern approach to the town. The familiar name Prince Marko’s Tower comes from oral tradition and does not establish that Marko built or occupied it. The surviving rounded masonry shell is the focus of this model. Lost upper works, an asserted underground river passage and the wider town have not been reconstructed.

At a July 2024 heritage meeting reported by the local tourism organisation, the tower was named among priorities for assessment and protection. This places it within a wider effort to document Višegrad’s historic buildings, alongside other towers and the old town at Dobrun.
What the announcement establishes
The meeting concerned valuation and future protection work. It does not establish a construction date or prove that restoration has been completed. The name and surviving ruin should therefore be read separately from later proposals for its presentation.

The 2024 heritage meeting also discussed ownership issues and the condition of ruined buildings across Višegrad.
